India Slams Pakistan at UNGA: Terror Links and False Claims
India Slams Pakistan at UNGA for Glorifying Terrorism and Shielding Extremists
India on Saturday strongly rebuked Pakistan for what it described as the “absurd theatrics” of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), after he once again sought to glorify terrorism and deflect attention from his country’s track record of sheltering extremists.
Exercising India’s right of reply, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot said terrorism remains “central” to Pakistan’s foreign policy and reminded the global community that Islamabad has long been a safe haven for terrorist outfits.
India Responds to Sharif’s Operation Sindoor Remarks
Speaking at the UNGA on Friday, Shehbaz Sharif accused India of “unprovoked aggression” earlier this year, referring to Operation Sindoor. He claimed that Pakistan’s armed forces had repelled the attack with “stunning professionalism, bravery and acumen.”
India, however, countered this narrative. Ms. Gahlot revealed that on May 10, Pakistan’s military “pleaded directly” with India for a cessation of hostilities. “If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it,” she remarked, citing available images as proof of the damage inflicted during the operation.
Pakistan’s Terror Links Exposed
In her sharp rebuttal, Ms. Gahlot underscored Pakistan’s pattern of shielding terrorist groups at global forums. She specifically referred to Islamabad’s move at the UN Security Council on April 25, 2025, when Pakistan blocked responsibility being placed on The Resistance Front (TRF) for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed several tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.
“No degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts,” she said, adding that Pakistan is the same country that sheltered Osama bin Laden for nearly a decade, even while claiming to be a partner in the war against terror.
She reiterated that India will hold both terrorists and their state sponsors accountable. “India will never allow terrorism to be practised under the cover of nuclear blackmail. Our message to the world is clear—zero tolerance for terrorism,” Ms. Gahlot said.
India Calls for Accountability, Not Empty Dialogue
In his UNGA address, Mr. Sharif claimed that Pakistan’s foreign policy rests on “peace, mutual respect, and cooperation” and called for dialogue with India. But India dismissed the claims as hollow.
“If he is indeed sincere, the pathway is clear,” Ms. Gahlot declared. “Pakistan must immediately shut down all terrorist camps and hand over to us the terrorists wanted in India.”
Indus Waters Treaty: A Flashpoint
Sharif also raised the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it an “act of war” and accusing India of illegally withholding Pakistan’s share of river waters. In response, India reminded the world that the treaty was put in abeyance only after the Pahalgam attack, underlining that terrorism has consequences.
No Room for Third Parties
The Pakistani Prime Minister further credited U.S. President Donald Trump for mediating a ceasefire between Bharat and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. India, however, dismissed this narrative outright.
“Any outstanding issue with Pakistan will be addressed bilaterally,” Ms. Gahlot stressed. “There is no room for any third party.”
