Gian Singh Power: Transforming Mental Health at Work

Gian Singh Power: A Trailblazer in Mental Health and Corporate Humanisation

Gian Singh Power is not just a name — he’s a movement. A force of courage, compassion, and innovation, Gian has emerged as a powerful voice in reshaping mental health conversations across global corporations.

Honoured as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his exceptional services to mental health, Gian’s story is a compelling narrative of pain turned into purpose, of a son who endured unimaginable loss and rose to lead millions with empathy and strength.

Gian Singh Power: A Humble Beginning with Big Dreams

Born into a loving home, with an Indian father and a white British mother, Gian Singh Power grew up immersed in two worlds — one infused with Eastern resilience and entrepreneurship, the other with Western calm and structure.

These dual influences laid the foundation for a young boy who, at just 13, ventured into his first business. Fueled by curiosity, grit, and ambition, Gian started a DVD manufacturing company, a bold step that hinted at the visionary leader he would become.

Raised in Durham, Gian’s early environment was shaped by his mother’s compassionate counselling and his father’s relentless entrepreneurial spirit. This powerful blend of emotional intelligence and business acumen would later become the essence of his life’s work.

Corporate Beginnings and a Life-Altering Tragedy

After earning a degree in international business and German from Aston University, Gian began his corporate journey at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt.

Later, he joined PwC in London, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, working in wealth management and financial restructuring. From the outside, life seemed perfect.

But on May 7, 2015, everything changed.

Gian’s father, Ranjit Singh Power, an entrepreneur residing between Dubai and the UK, left for a business trip to India and never returned. He was brutally murdered — a horrifying revelation that shattered Gian’s world. At just 23, Gian found himself at the helm of an international murder investigation, confronting government authorities, the Foreign Office, and legal systems. He faced what no young adult should — and survived with a fierce determination to turn his suffering into something meaningful.

Gian Singh Power: A Spark of Purpose – The Birth of TLC Lions

As news of the tragedy spread across the media, something remarkable happened — colleagues and strangers began sharing their hidden stories of loss, trauma, and resilience with Gian. These personal disclosures revealed an often-ignored truth: behind every professional façade is a deeply human story waiting to be acknowledged.

Realising the immense power of storytelling, Gian Singh Power founded TLC Lions — an organisation born from pain but built with purpose. Named in honour of his and his father’s middle name “Lion,” the brand reflects the courage of individuals who bravely share their life experiences, embracing vulnerability to foster authentic workplace cultures.

Since its inception, TLC Lions has partnered with over 300 global organisations and touched the lives of more than 2 million people. The company offers science-backed learning programmes that encourage emotional connection, psychological safety, and human-led leadership in the workplace. Gian’s message is clear: vulnerability isn’t weakness — it’s the birthplace of connection and courage.

Unwind: Meditation Meets Corporate Wellness

While leading TLC Lions, Gian discovered another powerful tool that changed his life — meditation. Amid the chaos of investigations, grief, and corporate pressure, a friend sent him a simple YouTube link to a guided meditation. Alone in a PwC restroom, Gian listened — and for the first time in months, he felt calm.

That moment inspired him to delve deeper into mindfulness. In 2018, he launched Unwind, the UK’s first surround-sound meditation experience designed for stressed-out professionals. Through scent, sound, lighting, and guided meditations, Unwind transformed dimly lit rooms into sanctuaries of peace for workers from JP Morgan, Warner Bros, Linklaters, and many more.

Gian envisioned a world where even the busiest offices could house peaceful oases. His mission: to bring emotional wellbeing directly into boardrooms and breakrooms — one mindful breath at a time.

Empathy as a Business Imperative

Gian Singh Power’s philosophy is both radical and simple: human-centred leadership drives business success. Through TLC Lions and Unwind, he has proven that emotional intelligence and mental wellbeing are not “nice-to-have” perks but fundamental to productivity, innovation, and employee retention.

Gone are the days when emotions were seen as distractions. Gian’s work teaches CEOs, managers, and teams to lead with compassion, listen actively, and create safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

His speakers are not professional orators — they are real people with extraordinary stories: a Syrian refugee turned BAFTA winner, a cancer survivor, a former prisoner who found redemption. These stories spark transformation not just in hearts, but in company cultures worldwide.

An OBE Honouring Humanity

On December 31, 2024, the announcement was made: Gian Singh Power would be appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to mental health.

It was more than a royal honour — it was national recognition of a man who dared to break taboos, question corporate norms, and build platforms where human stories could ignite change.

In the words of Gian himself:

“Storytelling doesn’t make us less professional, it makes us more human.”
