Born to Bachan Singh, a dedicated postmaster, Dr. Satwant Singh Dhaliwal displayed an early penchant for academic excellence. After completing his secondary education, he enrolled at the University of Malaya, a significant milestone in his journey. In 1953, he successfully cleared the University of Malaya Science (Intermediate) examinations, setting the stage for his future achievements.
His exceptional talent was soon recognized when, at the age of 23, Satwant Singh Dhaliwal became one of two students awarded the Shell Research Fellowship. The following year, he earned the prestigious Queen’s Scholarship, one of the few Sikhs in Malaysia to achieve this honor. Armed with a Master of Science degree, Dr. Dhaliwal pursued a Doctorate in Genetics at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1959.

Dr. Satwant Singh Dhaliwal’s career in genetics began as a Demonstrator in the Department of Zoology at the University of Malaya in 1955. His dedication and innovative work quickly propelled him through the ranks, and in 1968, he was appointed Professor of Genetics at the Department of Genetics and Cellular Biology in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite battling a long illness, his dedication to sports reporting remained steadfast, making his blog a trusted source for sports enthusiasts.

Tan Sri Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, aptly remarked, “His passion and obsession for sports, especially hockey, is second to none.”
Datuk Dr. Ramlan Abdul Aziz, a former director general of the National Sports Council, referred to him as a “selfless and untiring hero for hockey and national sports.”
