PM Modi to Receive Dominica’s Top National Award at India-CARICOM Summit
In a momentous recognition of global solidarity and partnership, the Commonwealth of Dominica will award Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi its highest national accolade, the Dominica Award of Honour.
The prestigious award will be presented at the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit, set to be held in Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21. This recognition celebrates Prime Minister Modi’s significant contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic and his leadership in strengthening India-Dominica relations, especially in healthcare and sustainable development.
An official announcement from Dominica’s Office of the Prime Minister highlighted the deep appreciation for Narendra Modi ‘sefforts, stating, “The Commonwealth of Dominica will bestow its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, upon His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, in recognition of his contributions to Dominica during the Covid-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.”
The honour will be conferred by Dominica’s President Sylvanie Burton, showcasing Dominica’s commitment to acknowledging India’s invaluable support.
Why PM Narendra Modi is Receiving the Dominica Award of Honour
During the height of the Covid-19 crisis, Dominica was among the small nations struggling to access essential resources to safeguard public health. In February 2021, PM Narendra Modi ‘sgovernment extended a vital hand, donating 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Dominica.
This critical support empowered Dominica to help not only its own citizens but also neighboring Caribbean nations in dire need. The timely aid underscored India’s commitment to fostering solidarity with smaller nations and bolstering regional resilience in challenging times.
The Dominica Award of Honour also acknowledges India’s far-reaching impact under PM Narendra Modi ‘sleadership. Beyond pandemic relief, India has shared expertise with Dominica in fields like healthcare, education, and information technology, contributing to the Caribbean nation’s development and resilience. Narendra Modi ‘sstrong stance on climate change action has further endeared him to leaders in vulnerable regions like the Caribbean, where sustainable development is essential for future survival.
“Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly during our time of need amid a global health crisis. It is an honour to present him with Dominica’s highest national accolade as a symbol of our gratitude for his support and as a reflection of the strong ties between our countries,” read the official message from Dominica’s leadership. This award not only represents Dominica’s recognition of PM Modi’s aid but also serves as a beacon for continued cooperation between India and the Caribbean.
India-CARICOM Summit: A Platform for Shared Goals

While receiving the Dominica Award of Honour, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in tackling complex challenges like climate change, pandemic response, and geopolitical tensions. Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to standing by nations like Dominica, advocating for a shared approach to resilience and progress.
“India remains committed to working closely with Dominica and other Caribbean nations to confront the pressing issues of our time,” PM Narendra Modi remarked, signaling India’s ongoing partnership with CARICOM nations to create a more resilient and interconnected global community.
