Dipna Lim Prasad, born on June 7, 1991, in Singapore, is not just a name but a beacon of inspiration in the world of athletics. A sprinter and hurdler par excellence, Dipna’s journey from a young athlete to a national record holder and an Olympian is a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence and her unyielding spirit.

Early Life and Education of Dipna Lim Prasad

From a young age, Dipna Lim Prasad exhibited a passion for sports that set her apart from her peers. Her journey began in 2004 when she enrolled in the Singapore Sports School as part of its pioneer batch. This institution played a crucial role in nurturing her talent and honing her skills.

After completing her secondary education in 2007, Dipna Lim Prasad pursued a diploma in Sports and Exercise Science at Auckland University of Technology, graduating in 2009. Her thirst for knowledge and improvement led her to Nanyang Technological University, where she earned a degree in Sport Science and Management in 2014.

Athletic Achievements and Records

Dipna Lim Prasad’s name is synonymous with excellence in athletics. She specializes in the 100 metres hurdles but has also made her mark in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres hurdles, 4×100 metres relay, and 4×400 metres relay. Her versatility and prowess across these events are a reflection of her exceptional talent and dedication.

One of Dipna’s most notable achievements came at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, where she became the first Singaporean to run the 400 metres hurdles in under 60 seconds. This feat not only earned her a national record but also solidified her position as a trailblazer in Singaporean athletics.

From 2008 to 2014, Dipna held the national and junior records for the 100 metres hurdles. In 2013, she shattered Prema Govindan’s 29-year-old national record in the 200 metres, further cementing her legacy. Although she has not competed in the 200 metres since, and her records have been surpassed by Shanti Pereira, Dipna’s contributions to Singaporean athletics remain unparalleled.

International Representation

Dipna’s athletic journey has seen her represent Singapore on numerous prestigious platforms. She competed in the 2012 London Olympics, the 2011 IAAF World Championships, the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships, and several editions of the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Athletic Championships, and Asian Indoor Athletic Championships. Beyond the track, Dipna Lim Prasad’s life is marked by her dedication to her family and her commitment to her personal goals. In 2014, she married Poh Seng Song, a fellow runner and her boyfriend of six years. Together, they have built a beautiful family and are proud parents to two children.
