Canadian Man Arrested for Harassing NRI

Canadian Arrested: Dakha Police in Ludhiana apprehended a 60-year-old man residing in Canada for purportedly harassing an NRI woman by circulating manipulated images and videos to her spouse.

The accused, identified as Bhupinder Singh from Kailpur village, shares a neighborhood with the victim, who hails from Detwal village, both residing in Brampton, Canada.

Initially regarded as a family acquaintance, the accused frequently visited the victim’s home until allegations of harassment severed all ties between them, as reported by the police.

The complainant, aged 55, migrated to Brampton with her family in 2007, where the accused enjoyed a friendly rapport with her in-laws and often visited their residence.

During her visit to Punjab to meet relatives on February 20, coincidentally, the accused was also present. On March 1, he demanded to speak to her via her husband, but faced refusal.

Subsequently, he resorted to sending morphed images and videos to her spouse, accompanied by threats of public dissemination. In response, the woman lodged a formal complaint with the police.

Inspector Jasvir Singh, the Station House Officer at Dakha police station, revealed that the accused was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to harassment, intimidation, and violation of privacy, alongside relevant provisions of the Information and Technology Act. Following the filing of the FIR, authorities swiftly arrested the accused.
