Under the new framework, DLIs are required to validate LOAs through this portal within a strict 10-calendar day window. Failure to adhere to this timeframe or the identification of a fraudulent LOA will result in the cancellation of the student visa application, with fees refunded to the applicant.
This initiative stems from a need to address past instances of abuse in Canada’s international student systems, including a troubling incident where Indian students faced near-deportation due to fraud acceptance letters.
Furthermore, as of December 1, last year, Canada has introduced a revised version of the study permit application form. In conjunction with these changes, the proposed to establish a two-tiered system for study permits, offering benefits such as expedited processing to institutions deemed trustworthy.
The IRCC plans to raise the cost-of-living requirement, reconsider the 20-hour work cap for international students, discontinue the facilitative measure allowing students to count time spent abroad towards their Post-Graduation Work Permit, and implement new modifications to the PGWP program.
These comprehensive changes underscore Canada’s commitment to fortifying the integrity of its international student program and ensuring a positive and secure experience for students choosing to study in the country.
