Canada Introduces Safeguards for International Students

Canada, a renowned choice for global students due to its excellent universities, welcoming society, and post-graduation prospects, has faced negative attention recently. A rise in issues like student visa fraud and counterfeit university documents has affected Indian students.

In response to the challenges within the International Student Program, Marc Miller, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, has unveiled a series of significant measures aimed at preserving the program’s integrity and the welfare of legitimate students.

Canada Updates for Students

Starting this December, post-secondary designated learning institutions (DLIs) must validate each applicant’s acceptance letter directly. The IRCC will introduce a “recognized institution” framework to reward post-secondary DLIs meeting superior service, support, and student outcomes standards. Additionally, the IRCC will perform a thorough evaluation of the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program criteria.

International students are valuable to Canada in social, cultural, and economic aspects. To sustain these advantages, it’s crucial to confront the threats to the International Student Program’s credibility.

The newly implemented measures focus on swiftly detecting counterfeit acceptance letters and tackling those who exploit legitimate students for financial gain.
