Born on November 7, 1949, in New Delhi, Anil Sood grew up with a spirit of academic excellence. Supported by a Government of India Merit Scholarship, he began his education at Mayo College, Ajmer, later moving to Modern School, New Delhi, where he earned the Gold Medal for topping the All India Higher Secondary Board examinations. Anil Sood entered IIT Delhi in Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1971 with the Silver Medal for topping his class.
