The following year, he was elected Chairman of the Monmouth County Democratic Organization, where he orchestrated a significant upset in the 2015 General Assembly campaign.
In 2017, Gopal made history by becoming the first Indian-American elected to New Jersey’s State Senate. His victory, described by NJ om as “perhaps the biggest upset of the night,” highlighted his ability to connect with voters across party lines.
