US Visa Processing Update

US Visa: The US Consulate in Mumbai proactively tackled visa demand with a ‘Super Saturday’ drive, screening 1.5K diverse applicants, including students, tourists, and workers.

These special drives, initiated periodically since 2022, are now set to become quarterly events, aiming to address the previously daunting backlog, which had reached waiting periods of more than 3 years.

Efforts to bolster manpower and resources have notably reduced this backlog, as affirmed by visa chief Katherine Estes. The consulate encourages direct applications and emphasizes regular monitoring of its website for visa appointment availability.

During the Super Saturday, consular authorities ensured applicant comfort with arrangements for best in class facilities involving special arrangements for Handicap applicants as well. Greg Pardo, the consulate’s spokesperson, highlighted the nationwide reach of applicants, showcasing the consulate’s operational commitment and the flexibility of visa application locations.

An applicant from Chennai echoed surprise at securing a Saturday appointment, affirming the consulate’s functioning status. The US Embassy in New Delhi and its consulates collectively processed over a million visas in 2023, underscoring their dedication to managing demand and streamlining the visa process.

This concerted effort not only addresses the surging demand for visas but also underscores the consulate’s commitment to facilitating smoother visa applications for those aspiring to visit the United States.
