US Universities : In the wake of recent incidents involving the deportation of Telugu students from the US, universities are rallying behind a call for enhanced preparedness and vigilance in documentation and personal information management. From the moment these students embark on their academic journey in the US Universities to the day they step into their classrooms, the spotlight is on their ability to navigate the intricate maze of rules and regulations.
US Universities & Telugu Students
Telugu students in the US have always represented a significant portion of the international student community, particularly hailing from regions like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Khammam. Reports indicate that last year alone, over 2,10,000 students from India took the plunge into American academia, with a substantial 40% of them originating from these twin states.
John Wilson, the representative from Middle Tennessee State University, one of the US Universities, urges students to delve into comprehensive research about the immigration process. “The scrutiny will only increase from here on, so it is advisable to stay informed. From our end as well, we will make sure to provide end-to-end services for the smooth transition of students in the foreign land,” added Wilson.
A burning concern within the international student community is the prospect of post-graduation unemployment leading to a return to one’s home country. US Universities are addressing this by emphasizing the active involvement of students in academic pursuits that can directly contribute to landing a job after completing their studies.
Balaji Krishnan, the representative of the University of Memphis one of the US Universities, stresses, “The institution offers various internships and short-term courses aimed at enhancing students’ employability. However, it is the student’s responsibility to make the most of these opportunities.”
According to Manisha Zaveri, co-founder of Career Mosaic, a prominent international student recruitment company, the trends are striking. “We have processed a staggering 1,34,000 US applications, out of which a remarkable 75% came from the twin states. Notably, 90% of applicants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh expressed a keen interest in pursuing STEM courses, underlining the region’s strong inclination towards science and cutting-edge technology.”
Marci Fradkin, representing Virginia Commonwealth University, adds a word of advice. “Approximately 300 STEM courses are available, and while Indian students frequently opt for popular choices like data science, software engineering, and cybersecurity, diversifying their academic selection could significantly enhance their job prospects.”
