US Immigration: In a landmark stride towards inclusivity, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has unveiled the addition of a third gender option, X, on the Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.
Effective April 1, 2024, this alteration signals a significant move towards accommodating individuals who identify beyond the traditional gender binary of Male and Female.
US Immigration Updates
Applicants submitting the 04/01/24 edition of Form N-400 or those with pending applications filed before April 1, 2024, now possess the liberty to designate X as their gender identity. This enhancement underscores USCIS’s unwavering dedication to cultivating a more inclusive environment within the immigration domain.
Individuals seeking to update their gender selection to X on a pending Form N-400 can effectuate this change by furnishing a letter elucidating their request, either in response to a Request for Evidence or can be done during an interview.
It’s noteworthy that Form N-400 presently stands as the sole USCIS form presenting the X gender option.
Pending further revisions to additional forms, naturalization certificates persist as the exclusive USCIS-issued secure identity documents reflecting the gender X.
USCIS remains actively engaged in updating supplementary forms to incorporate the X gender option, thereby ensuring uniformity and inclusivity across all benefit requests.
This policy amendment mirrors USCIS’s concerted endeavours to dismantle barriers and mitigate undue burdens in accessing immigration benefits, all while upholding stringent identity verification and fraud prevention protocols.
