In a groundbreaking move tailored for the festive season, Swiggy, India’s leading food delivery and quick-commerce platform, has rolled out its much-anticipated International Login feature. This new capability allows users from 27 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and the UAE, to log in with their international numbers and use Swiggy’s comprehensive services in India.
Through this feature, overseas users can order meals, groceries, and essentials via Instamart, or even book a restaurant table, making it easy to surprise loved ones back home with thoughtful gifts or special outings.
Swiggy’s latest feature promises a seamless experience for non-resident Indians (NRIs) who want to connect with family and friends in India through meaningful gestures. Available services include Swiggy’s core offerings: food delivery, the Dineout feature for restaurant reservations, Instamart’s extensive list of groceries and essentials, and Swiggy Genie for on-demand pickups and deliveries.
To simplify access, International Login supports a range of payment options, including international credit cards and UPI, ensuring flexibility for global users.
In a press release on Friday, October 25, 2024, Phani Kishan, Co-founder and Chief Growth Officer of Swiggy, shared his excitement about the new launch. “Food and gifts are essential to family gatherings, especially during festivals,” he said. “With International Login, those living abroad can now surprise their loved ones on special occasions.”
Swiggy emphasized that the feature has been in high demand, especially among NRIs who want to remain a part of their family’s celebrations. Alongside the International Login, Swiggy is introducing a new gifting layout, enhancing the experience of sending festive gifts or making dinner reservations from afar.
How Swiggy’s International Login Works
For NRIs, the International Login provides a simplified and accessible experience to feel closer to home. Users can log in using their international phone numbers and make payments using internationally recognized credit cards or UPI options, ensuring a smooth ordering process. Once logged in, they can navigate Swiggy’s platform as any local user in India would, gaining full access to food delivery, restaurant bookings, and Instamart’s quick-commerce essentials.
The International Login feature has been designed with a user-friendly gifting layout, making it easier than ever to send festive gifts or arrange celebratory meals. Whether it’s scheduling a Diwali feast or booking a family dinner, NRIs now have a streamlined way to express love and thoughtfulness, especially during India’s peak festive season.
Expanding Footprint in India and Beyond
Founded in 2014, Swiggy has grown to become a formidable name in India’s food delivery and quick-commerce sectors. Headquartered in Bengaluru, the company collaborates with approximately 200,000 restaurants across over 600 cities.
Instamart, Swiggy’s grocery and essentials service, operates in 43 cities and delivers across 20-plus categories within minutes, making it a go-to for convenience and speed. This rapid expansion and Swiggy’s stronghold across multiple cities make it easy for NRIs to find beloved restaurants or essentials their families rely on back home.
Swiggy has been eyeing even more ambitious growth. Last month, on September 26, 2024, the company filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) with a target to raise ₹3,750 crore, including a fresh issue of 37,500 million equity shares with a face value of ₹1 each. Though recent reports indicate a valuation reduction for the IPO due to market fluctuations, Swiggy remains focused on expanding both domestically and globally.
Perfect Timing for the Festive Season
The launch of International Login could not be timelier. As India enters the heart of its festive season, with Diwali and other celebrations around the corner, families living abroad are often looking for ways to reconnect and be part of the celebrations. This feature offers a way to bridge the distance, letting them send warm wishes through gifts, food, and thoughtful gestures.
Co-founder Phani Kishan highlighted the value of this new initiative, saying that it will allow NRIs to “surprise their loved ones on special occasions,” underscoring Swiggy’s commitment to bringing people closer, no matter where they are.
