A Scholarly Foundation of Sundaresh Menon

Born on 26th February 1962, Sundaresh Menon’s journey began as a student. He pursued his legal education at the prestigious National University of Singapore, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree with first-class honours in 1986. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to Harvard Law School, where he earned a Master of Laws degree in 1991.

A Luminary in the Making

Armed with a stellar education, Sundaresh Menon embarked on his legal career as a legal assistant at Shook Lin & Bok in 1987, a journey that would shape his future. His dedication and expertise soon led to him becoming a partner at the firm in 1990. In 1992, alongside Wong Meng Meng and Alvin Yeo, he co-founded WongPartnership, one of Singapore’s largest law firms.

In 2006, Sundaresh Menon shifted gears, taking on the role of a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court. This marked a pivotal moment in his career as he transitioned from private practice to public service. His commitment to justice and the rule of law was further recognized when he was appointed Senior Counsel in 2008.

The Attorney-General and Beyond

In 2010, Sundaresh Menon was entrusted with the role of Singapore’s Attorney-General, a position he held until 2012. His tenure was marked by unwavering dedication to upholding the law and ensuring justice prevailed. Shortly after stepping down as Attorney-General, he was appointed as a Judge of Appeal in 2012, a testament to his legal acumen.

On 6th November 2012, history was made as Sundaresh Menon became Singapore’s fourth Chief Justice, the first to be born in Singapore. This appointment solidified his status as a legal luminary of unparalleled stature.

He served as Deputy Chairman of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, a member of the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law, and Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Singapore Management University School of Law.
