Singapore is optimistic about the potential influx of tourists from India and is strategically focusing on expanding its hospitality infrastructure, particularly in terms of hotel rooms. Despite the pandemic-induced challenges, Singapore remains steadfast in its efforts to attract Indian visitors.
Before the lockdowns, Singapore welcomed 1.4M Indian tourists, a recovery to 1.1M last year. To further promote tourism, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) maintains offices in Mumbai and Delhi, aggressively marketing Singapore as a premier holiday destination in India.
Singapore Optimistic…
Poh Chi Chuan, Executive Director of Exhibitions & Conferences at the STB, emphasized Singapore’s commitment to enhancing facilities for both tourists and business travellers. The city-state is in the process of adding 9K new hotel rooms to its existing inventory of approximately 72K rooms.
In addition to leisure tourism, Singapore recognizes the significance of attracting business travellers from India, given the growing trade ties and the thriving Indian economy.
Poh highlighted opportunities in various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, Biomed, IT, and FinTech, which are vital for boosting bilateral trade between Singapore and India.
Moreover, Singapore is poised to host the inaugural APAC edition of the prestigious National Retail Federation (NRF) Retail Big Show in June, following the success of NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show in New York City.
Overall, Singapore’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to fostering strong economic and cultural ties with India while positioning itself as a preferred destination for both leisure and business travellers.
