Roshni Goyate : From Copywriter to Changemaker

A Trailblazer in Diversity Education and Equity

Roshni Goyate : In a world that often falls short of embracing diversity, Roshni Goyate stands as a beacon of hope and change. Her journey, marked by dedication, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of equity, is a testament to the transformative power of education and self-discovery.

Let’s embark on a journey through the life and wisdom of Roshni Goyate, Co-founder of The Other Box, and a force for positive change in the world.

Inspiring Background of Roshni Goyate

Roshni Goyate is a proud Londoner and the daughter of Indian immigrants. Growing up in one of London’s most diverse neighbourhoods, she experienced a vibrant tapestry of cultures and backgrounds. However, her transition to the corporate world as a senior copywriter revealed a stark contrast.

The workplace lacked the diversity she had grown up with, leaving her to question the glaring disparities. Why was her school’s diversity not mirrored in her career? Why was she constantly mistaken for a different role, often relegated to tasks unrelated to her job description?

These questions became the seeds of change that would later blossom into The Other Box, an organization dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusive language. Roshni’s journey began with curiosity and a deep commitment to addressing these issues head-on.

The Birth of The Other Box

In 2016, fate intervened as Roshni Goyate crossed paths with Leyya Sattar, sharing similar frustrations and visions. Together, they birthed The Other Box, a platform committed to creating space for difference and leading with love.

This was not just another “diversity” initiative; it was a movement to rewrite the narrative of workplace inclusivity. Roshni played a pivotal role in co-creating training programs and managing clients, spearheading The Other Box’s mission to foster equity and inclusion.

The Journey of Self-Enrichment

Roshni’s journey didn’t stop at creating The Other Box. In 2019, Roshini Goyate pursued a Master’s in Culture, Diaspora, and Ethnicity at Birkbeck, University of London. This interdisciplinary post-graduate course delved into radical histories of colonialism and postcolonialism, with a strong emphasis on intersectionality.

Roshni’s academic pursuits directly fed into the work she did at The Other Box, enriching her understanding and enabling her to make a more significant impact.

Poetry and Creative Expression

Beyond her corporate and academic achievements, Roshni Goyate is also a published poet and a member of the acclaimed poetry collective, 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE. Together, they have published various works, including Roshni’s pamphlet, “Shadow Work.” Her creative expressions amplify the voices and experiences of underrepresented communities, bringing to light the beauty and struggles of diversity.
