Rise to Prominence: Cardiff City and Sunderland

In June 2006, Rocky Michael Chopra’s career took a significant turn when he was sold to Cardiff City for £500,000. His performances during the 2006–07 season earned him a place on the PFA Team of the Year. This period marked the beginning of Chopra’s ascent in professional football.

The following year, Rocky Michael Chopra made a £5 million move to Premier League side Sunderland. Although his time at Sunderland had its challenges, Chopra’s determination and skill were undeniable. He returned to Cardiff on a loan deal, which was later made permanent in July 2009 for £3 million. Despite being born and raised in England, Rocky Michael Chopra was eligible to play for India through his father. In November 2010, he entered talks to acquire an Indian passport to represent India in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

Although bureaucratic challenges prevented this dream from materializing, Chopra’s desire to play for India remained strong. In August 2014, he expressed his willingness to renounce his British citizenship to achieve this goal.
