NRI Women : CID organises awareness programme on ‘Rights of Women in NRI Matrimonial Issues’

NRI Women : In a significant step towards empowering women involved in NRI (Non-Residential Indian) marital issues, the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) organized a one-day awareness program titled ‘Rights of Women in NRI Matrimonial Issues’ at Maris Stella College. The event aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by NRI women in their marital relationships, the legal assistance available to them, and the responsibilities of various stakeholders, including the police.

Rights of NRI Women and Legal Assistance

M. Babitha, Member-Secretary of the AP State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), commenced the event with a compelling discussion on the rights of NRI women and the legal support they can access when dealing with marital issues. Her insights highlighted the importance of ensuring justice and support for women facing complex cross-border challenges.

APNRT Society’s Role and Assistance

Venkat S. Medapati, President of the APNRT Society, delved into ‘Matrimonial Issues at APNRT Society and the Assistance from AP Government.’ He emphasized the collaborative efforts between society and the government to provide assistance and guidance to NRI women facing matrimonial challenges.

Understanding Visa Categories and Passport Impoundment

Regional Passport Officer, Vijayawada, K. Shiva Harsha, provided valuable information on ‘Different categories of Visas, situation of impounding of passport with special relevance to NRI marriages.’ This segment clarified the various visa categories, their implications on marriage-related matters, and what happens when passports are impounded in such situations.

NRI Women & The Role of Law Enforcement

M. Laxmana Rao, Legal Advisor to APCID, addressed the ‘Role and responsibilities of police personnel in NRI matrimonial issues.’ Rao’s insights shed light on the critical role law enforcement plays in ensuring the safety and justice for NRI women facing matrimonial challenges.

CID’s Matrimonial Case Insights

CID Superintendent of Police (SP), K.G.V. Saritha, presented a comprehensive overview of the matrimonial cases reported to the NRI Cell of the CID during the seminar. Her presentation included real-world examples, demonstrating the complexities and nuances of such cases.

Safety Guidelines for Overseas Indian Marriages

As a culmination of the event, the officers released a brochure titled ‘Overseas Indian Marriages – Safety Guidelines.’ This practical guide aims to educate NRI women and their families on how to navigate potential challenges and seek assistance when needed.
