NRI Voters: Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the Indian government is actively encouraging non-resident Indians (NRIs) to exercise their voting rights. Scheduled in seven phases, starting from April 19, the elections will conclude with results announced on June 4.
NRIs are urged to notify the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of any changes in their overseas residential addresses to ensure seamless participation in the electoral process.

In a recent post on social media platform X, the Press Information Bureau emphasized the importance of NRI participation, providing a step-by-step guide for overseas voters to engage in the general elections.
According to the Election Commission, overseas voters, Indian citizens residing abroad for reasons such as employment or education, can register to vote using the address listed on their Indian passport, provided they have not acquired citizenship of another nation.
To register, NRI voters must submit Form 6A along with a recent passport-sized coloured photograph and self-attested photocopies of relevant passport pages showing photographs, Indian addresses, and valid visa endorsements.
Moreover, applicants have the option to submit the form directly to the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant ERO of their respective constituency, with the requirement of presenting the original passport for verification if submitted in person.
The Indian government’s proactive efforts aim to ensure the inclusive participation of NRIs in shaping the country’s democratic processes.
