Non-EU Nationals Can Now Apply Online for Schengen Visas

Schengen Visas Go Digital, Simplifying the Application Process for Non-EU Nationals

In a revolutionary step, the European Parliament and Council announced the introduction of a completely online application procedure for Schengen visas, allowing non-EU people to apply from the comfort of their own homes. This digital visa programme intends to improve the visa application process, boosting efficiency and strengthening security inside the Schengen region.

Once approved by all member states of the European Union, this transformational change will come into force, streamlining processes for Schengen visa applicants globally. This reform is anticipated to benefit several tourists, especially those from countries like India, where a Schengen visa is a necessity for entering EU members. However, exemptions for 90 days of visa-free travel will still apply to nationals of nations such as Britain, the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Under the new approach, applicants may expect a hassle-free online experience, saying goodbye to the conventional visa sticker attached to passports. A press statement produced by the Council underlines that this move to digital applications would not only accelerate the procedure but also heighten security measures across the Schengen region.

A Schengen visa provides persons the chance to visit EU nations for up to 90 days during a six-month period, catering to tourist or family-related needs. For individuals travelling on business travels, seminars, or meetings, a Schengen business visa is now readily accessible.

It is crucial to remember that those wishing to remain or work in the EU for a long length of time must get a visa appropriate to the nation they desire to visit.
