According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ annual report, a total of 30,677 applications were filed in 2024—a staggering 173% increase compared to the 11,227 received in 2023.

The Ministry emphasized that the sharp growth “reflects the growing appeal of Luxembourg as a study, work, and living destination,” with demand higher than ever across multiple visa categories.
Family and Tourism Drive the Boom
The report reveals that family reunification led the visa demand, accounting for 9,009 applications. A close second was tourism, with 8,038 visa requests — a figure unseen in previous years. Ministry officials noted that this significant spike in tourism visas indicates Luxembourg’s newfound status as a compelling travel hotspot.
“This is a major shift,” the Ministry stated. “Luxembourg is no longer just a financial hub — it’s emerging as a warm, welcoming, and culturally rich destination for families and leisure travelers alike.”
Business and Long-Stay Visas Also Rise
While family and tourist categories dominated, business travel and long-term stays also saw substantial gains. In 2024, 5,600 applications were filed for business purposes, while 4,624 long-stay visa requests were submitted — suggesting a growing professional interest in the country’s stable and innovation-driven economy.
These figures point to a broader trend: Luxembourg is increasingly viewed as a viable base for global talent, bolstered by its multilingual workforce, international schools, and thriving job market.
India Leads in Visa Recipients
Among the nationalities applying for Schengen visas, Indian citizens topped the list with 5,495 visas granted. “Indian nationals represent the largest group of third-country visitors to Luxembourg in 2024,” the Ministry confirmed, placing them ahead of Turkish and Chinese citizens.

A significant portion of this Luxembourg Schengen visa surge can be traced back to its diplomatic missions abroad. The consulate in New Delhi processed the most applications — 4,058 in total — followed closely by Ankara with 3,299, and Beijing with 1,951.
In particular, the rise in Chinese applications has been fueled by direct flight connections and the government’s partnership with an external service provider to streamline the application process.
