Her journey from aspiring yoga teacher to an acclaimed actress and international model is nothing short of inspirational. Let’s delve into the life and career of Lisa Haydon, a true icon in Indian cinema and fashion.

Early Life and Beginnings of Lisa Haydon

Born in Madras (now Chennai), India, Lisa Haydon’s multicultural background is as diverse as her career. Her father is Indian Malayali, and her mother is Australian. This blend of cultures has given Lisa a unique perspective and an eclectic style.

Lisa spent her formative years in Australia and the United States, before moving back to India in 2007. This international exposure has significantly influenced her career and personal style.

Modelling Career

Lisa Haydon initially aspired to be a yoga teacher at the age of 18. To fund her yoga classes and living expenses, she started modelling on the side. Her first assignment was for a stretch mark cream in Australia. Encouraged by her sister, Malika Haydon, a successful model turned DJ, Lisa moved to India to pursue modelling more seriously.

In India, Lisa quickly became a prominent face in the fashion industry. She walked the ramp for prestigious events like Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and HDIL-India Couture Week.

Lisa became the face of Lakmé and featured in commercials for brands like Hyundai, Indigo Nation, Myntra.com, and Blender’s Pride. One of her notable campaigns was for Nirav Modi, where she worked alongside international models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Andreea Diaconu, photographed by the legendary Peter Lindbergh.

Lisa has graced the covers of major fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Vogue India, Femina, FHM, Hello!, and L’Officiel.

Her stunning looks and impeccable style earned her accolades like the Cosmopolitan Fun and Fearless Awards for Best Model and Most Stylish Persona in 2009, DNA Most Stylish in 2009, and Marie Claire Best Model in 2010. She also appeared in the prestigious Kingfisher Calendar in 2011.

Fashion Designer

Expanding her horizons beyond modelling, Lisa collaborated with lifestyle brand Sher Singh, which was later acquired by Myntra. She launched their first capsule collection, which reflected her global style infused with Indian elements.

The collection was a testament to her fashion sensibility, featuring playful designs with lace embellishments and a mix of bohemian and structured cuts. This endeavor marked the first time an Indian model and actress designed a line internationally, akin to global celebrities like Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez.

Acting Career

Lisa Haydon’s transition to acting was serendipitous. She was spotted by Anil Kapoor in a coffee shop, which led to her debut role in the ensemble romantic comedy-drama “Aisha” (2010), alongside Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol.

The film, based on Jane Austen’s “Emma,” saw Lisa portray Aarti Menon, a sophisticated, New-York returned corporate professional. To prepare for this role, Lisa trained in method acting in New York and took diction classes in Mumbai.

In 2014, Lisa delivered a breakthrough performance in the critically acclaimed “Queen,” starring alongside Kangana Ranaut. Her portrayal of Vijayalakshmi, a free-spirited single mother living in Paris, won her rave reviews. Critics praised her for bringing both sultriness and genuine warmth to the character. This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Lisa continued to impress with her roles in films like “The Shaukeens” (2014), a comedy where she starred opposite Akshay Kumar, and “Housefull 3” (2016), a commercially successful comedy. She also had a brief but memorable role in Karan Johar’s musical romantic drama “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” (2016).

Her presence on the show brought a fresh and vibrant perspective, inspiring many aspiring models. She also starred in the web series “The Trip” on Bindass channel, further showcasing her versatility as an entertainer.
