Indian Students Campaign in UK

Indian Students Support Fair Visa Campaign

Indian Students: UK’s NISAU launches “Fair Visa, Fair Chance” campaign backing the post-study Graduate Route visa amid concerns over potential reversals.

The campaign advocates for the continuation of the visa, allowing international graduates two years of work experience post-degree.

The ongoing review of the Graduate Route by the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has sparked fears within NISAU that progress made may be undone.

Home Secretary James Cleverly has tasked MAC to ensure the visa remains effective, with a report expected next month.

Lord Karan Bilimoria, Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on International Students and NISAU patron, emphasized the importance of the Graduate Route in allowing students to earn income, put on work experience, and contribute to the nation’s economy.

He warned against limiting the Graduate Route, given the significant economic contributions of international students amounting to GBP 42 billion. NISAU plans to provide evidence to MAC, utilizing findings and perspectives gathered from the India-UK Achievers Honours program.

The decline in applications from Indian students to British universities, evident from recent UCAS figures, underscores the urgency of safeguarding initiatives like the Graduate Route.

NISAU’s campaign seeks to ensure continued opportunities for Indian students in the UK and maintain the country’s appeal as a destination for higher education.
