The timing of this solidarity event couldn’t be more crucial. In response to a daring attack by Hamas, which claimed the lives of more than a thousand people in Israel, the Benjamin Netanyahu-led government formally declared war on the militant group.
Israel, in retaliation, launched a fierce offensive with airstrikes in Gaza, resulting in significant casualties and widespread destruction. The rapid escalation of the conflict, which began with a surprise assault by Hamas, has taken a heavy toll on both sides.
The United Nations reported on Wednesday that over 260,000 people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced due to heavy Israeli bombardments from the air, land, and sea. As the situation continued to deteriorate, Israel imposed a “complete siege” on the already blockaded Gaza Strip, cutting off essential supplies such as food, water, fuel, and electricity.
Amidst these challenging circumstances, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, via a phone conversation. Modi expressed India’s unwavering support during this difficult period and strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms.
In a tweet, PM Modi stated, “I thank Prime Minister @netanyahu for his phone call and providing an update on the ongoing situation. The people of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
