In New Taipei City’s Zhonghe district, firefighters rescued four individuals from a collapsed warehouse, while in Xindian, all 12 trapped persons were safely extricated from a sinking building.

Although tsunami warnings for Taiwan, Japan, and the Philippines were later cancelled, observed waves prompted coastal caution. Fortunately, no significant damage occurred.

The quake’s epicentre lay in the Pacific Ocean, south-southeast of Hualien County Hall, with varying intensity felt across Taiwan.

While Miyakojima and Okinawa islands faced a tsunami alert, no substantial waves materialized. Residents were cautioned about potential waves up to 3 meters high.

This seismic event underscores the importance of preparedness and swift response in mitigating disasters’ impacts.

The Indian Taipei Association’s swift action in setting up the helpline reflects a coordinated effort to assist affected nationals. As Taiwan and its neighbouring regions recover, vigilance remains crucial in ensuring safety and resilience against natural calamities.
