India Approves: India has extended a significant gesture of goodwill by endorsing a special provision allowing 7th-generation Indian-origin Mauritians eligibility for the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card, as announced by President Droupadi Murmu.
This initiative aims to foster a reconnection among younger Mauritians of Indian descent with their ancestral homeland, showcasing India’s profound respect for shared cultural heritage.

This redevelopment endeavour seeks to transform the site into a multifaceted hub encompassing religious, cultural, and touristic dimensions, thereby enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations.
Ganga Talao, nestled within the heart of Mauritius, holds profound religious significance as the country’s most sacred Hindu site. The redevelopment project is poised to deepen the interpersonal connections and strengthen the bonds between India and Mauritius.
President Murmu, in her address, underscored recent bilateral endeavours, including the introduction of UPI and RuPay Card settlement systems, inauguration of infrastructure projects, and collaborative efforts in satellite development and eco-friendly electric buses.
As India advances toward becoming a global power and developed nation, President Murmu reaffirmed India’s commitment to fortifying its relations with close allies such as Mauritius.
President Murmu expressed her delight in participating as the Chief Guest in Mauritius’ 56th National Day celebrations, praising the country as a beacon of development.
She paid homage to the resilient spirit of the Mauritian people, particularly the ancestors who journeyed from India, including the girmitiya indentured labourers.
