According to his written reply, an astounding 87,026 Indians have resigned their citizenship until June this year. Dr. Jaishankar’s statement suggests that the number of Indians deciding to adopt foreign citizenship has been constantly climbing for the past decade. Since 2011, more than 17.50 lakh individuals have thrown up their Indian citizenship. The data for the prior years is also stunning, with 2,25,620 Indians in 2022, 1,63,370 in 2021, and 85,256 in 2020 selecting for foreign citizenship.
