At the forefront of this groundbreaking shift is the German Consulate General in Bengaluru, which played a pivotal role in facilitating the dreams of 8,613 Indians by issuing work visas. This consulate’s strategic location in India’s Silicon Valley highlights the growing importance of the tech sector and its demand for skilled professionals in Germany.
Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata: Leading the Way to Germany

India Tops the List
India not only received the highest number of work visas but also emerged as the leading country for this category overall, leaving behind nations such as Iran, Lebanon, Russia, Kosovo, and Turkey. Academic Pursuits Thriving
Beyond work visas, Germany remains a sought-after destination for educational pursuits. In 2022, India secured the third-highest number of national visas for academic endeavors, with 17,268 student visas granted. This places India ahead of Turkey (7,176) and China (7,077) in the race for quality education on foreign shores.
Simplified Path to German Citizenship
The German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI) has introduced a draft law aimed at simplifying citizenship procedures for foreigners. Under these new regulations, the mandatory residence period to be eligible for citizenship will be reduced from eight to five years. Furthermore, children born in Germany will be granted citizenship if at least one parent has resided there for five years.
Germany & Language Proficiency
In a bid to promote integration, applicants demonstrating a high level of integration and German language proficiency can become citizens after just three years of residence. Long-term residents, particularly those who arrived as guest workers in the 1960s and 1970s, will only need to pass an oral exam instead of a written one.
