Although the exact amount remains unspecified, this deposit aims to cover unforeseen expenses during students stays.

It will be reimbursed upon permit expiration, renewal, or obtaining a new French residency permit. However, non-compliance with a removal order leads to permanent withholding.
The legislation also mandates a tuition fee hike for non-EU students and demands annual proof of enrolment in a real and serious study program for those with multi-year residency permits.
Despite challenges for immigrants in accessing certain benefits, international students remain exempt from alterations affecting housing aid.
Moreover, the law heightens difficulties for immigrants bringing family members to France, extending the residency requirement to 24 months and raising the unmarried partner age from 18 to 21. This mirrors a broader trend, aligning with the UK’s recent prohibition on international students bringing dependents, effective since January 1.
While the immigration law has yet to secure final approval from France’s constitutional council, potential modifications or removals could shape its final form.
This legislative overhaul reflects France’s efforts to regulate immigration, balancing concerns over overstays and crime with the needs of international students and families seeking residency in the country.
