The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Shri Abhishek Singh, CEO of India AI, and Shri Shivnath Thukral, Director & Head of Public Policy, Meta in India.
The primary objective of this landmark MoU is to establish a robust framework for collaboration and cooperation between ‘India AI’ and Meta in the field of AI & Emerging Technologies. One of the key initiatives under this agreement is to make Meta’s open-source AI models accessible for use by the Indian AI ecosystem.

Both entities are also considering the establishment of a Centre of Excellence to nurture the startup ecosystem in AI & other Emerging Technologies.
One of the key areas of focus in this partnership is leveraging Meta’s AI research models like LlaMA, Massively Multilingual Speech, and No Language Left Behind to build datasets in Indian languages. The priority is given to low-resource languages, enabling translation and large language models. This initiative seeks to foster social inclusion, improve government service delivery, and spur innovation using large language models, Generative AI, cognitive systems, and translation models.
Moreover, ‘India AI’ and Meta are dedicated to enhancing accessibility to AI computing resources for researchers, startups, and organizations with limited resources. They plan to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration through workshops, seminars, conferences, and similar platforms, promoting a vibrant AI community in India.
The partnership also aims to contribute to the growth of AI talent in India by developing programs and initiatives that enhance AI & Emerging Technologies skills and expertise among researchers, professionals, and students.
