Tesla and SpaceX Chief, Elon Musk, Enters US Immigration Discourse, Advocates for Increased Legal Immigration. In a recent statement on the platform formerly known as Twitter, Musk emphasized the need to streamline legal immigration processes while staunchly opposing illegal immigration into the United States.

He expressed concern over the ease of illegal entry compared to the challenges faced by legal immigrants, calling for a crackdown on unauthorized immigration and a significant boost in legal immigration.

Musk’s remarks were prompted by a post from Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, who shared data illustrating the rise in H-1B visa applicants over the past two decades. The H-1B visa allows foreign individuals to work in the U.S. in specialized fields where expertise is crucial, and local talent is insufficient.

Currently capped at 85,000 visas annually by Congress, the H-1B program consists of 65,000 visas under the regular cap and an additional 20,000 under the advanced degree exemption, known as the master’s cap.

Illegal immigration has been a contentious issue in the U.S., especially in major cities like New York, grappling with an influx of migrants facing challenges in finding housing and employment.

December saw a spike in apprehensions at the U.S. border, reaching nearly 11K in a single day, a figure that some officials deemed close to or at a record high.
