Musk’s remarks were prompted by a post from Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, who shared data illustrating the rise in H-1B visa applicants over the past two decades. The H-1B visa allows foreign individuals to work in the U.S. in specialized fields where expertise is crucial, and local talent is insufficient.
Currently capped at 85,000 visas annually by Congress, the H-1B program consists of 65,000 visas under the regular cap and an additional 20,000 under the advanced degree exemption, known as the master’s cap.

December saw a spike in apprehensions at the U.S. border, reaching nearly 11K in a single day, a figure that some officials deemed close to or at a record high.
