Jaishankar : External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has embarked on a five-day official visit to the United Kingdom, igniting hopes for an elevated chapter in the India-UK Diplomatic Partnership. This visit is poised to reinforce the warmth and thriving relationship between the two nations.
During his stay, Dr. Jaishankar is set to engage in crucial discussions with his UK counterpart, Foreign Secretary Sir James Cleverly. The discussions are anticipated to encompass key diplomatic issues, shared interests, and collaborative initiatives, underlining the high-level commitment both nations share.

The diplomatic ties between India and the UK have been flourishing, marked notably by the launch of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021. This robust alliance is further solidified by the joint commitment outlined in the India-UK Roadmap 2030, symbolizing a dedicated effort to build a partnership that is mutually beneficial.

The Ministry of External Affairs emphasizes that Dr. Jaishankar’s visit seeks to provide new impetus to the friendly ties between India and the United Kingdom. Advancements in Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Negotiations
During his current visit to the UK, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with his British counterpart, David Cameron, with a keen focus on advancing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The leaders also explored opportunities for partnerships in defence, science, and technology.
In their Monday meeting, the leaders underscored the robustness of the UK-India relationship, aligning with the aspirations outlined in the UK-India 2030 Roadmap, as highlighted by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
Global Challenges and Geo-Political Dynamics
The discussions between the leaders encompassed shared global challenges, including the situations in Israel and Gaza, as well as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Emphasizing the significance of the Indo-Pacific region for global growth and prosperity, they acknowledged its pivotal role in shaping geopolitical dynamics.
Warm Gestures and Cultural Exchange
In a recent cabinet reshuffle by UK PM Rishi Sunak, former Prime Minister David Cameron assumed the role of UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.
Jaishankar conveyed Diwali wishes to Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, at 10 Downing Street. Accompanied by his wife Kyoko Jaishankar, he met with the UK PM, presenting him with a Lord Ganesha statue and a cricket bat signed by Indian batting legend Virat Kohli.
Reflecting on the meeting, Jaishankar shared his sentiments on social media, stating, “A pleasure to meet UK Foreign Secretary @David_Cameron this afternoon on his first day in office. Congratulated him on his appointment. Held a detailed discussion on realizing the full potential of our strategic partnership. Also exchanged views on the situation in West Asia, the Ukraine conflict, and the Indo-Pacific. Look forward to working with him closely.”
