In a recent podcast appearance, former US President and current Republican presidential contender, Donald Trump, showered Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with glowing admiration, calling him a “good friend” and the “nicest human being.” Speaking on the Flagrant podcast, hosted by Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, Donald Trump highlighted his personal relationship with Modi and discussed his impressions of world leaders.
During the podcast, Donald Trump didn’t hold back in expressing his praise for the Indian leader. “Modi, he’s a friend of mine and also the nicest human being. Before he became Prime Minister, India was very unstable,” Trump remarked. He went on to describe Modi as a “total killer” in leadership, stating that despite his calm, father-like exterior, Modi has demonstrated an unparalleled strength in guiding India through turbulent times.
Donald Trump’s reference to Modi as a “total killer” may raise eyebrows, but it underscores the former president’s perception of Modi as a tough, no-nonsense leader who transformed India’s trajectory since taking office. Trump noted, “On the outside, he looks like your father, but he’s the nicest and a total killer.”
A Strong Bond Through Historic Events
Donald Trump fondly recalled Modi’s 2019 visit to the United States, particularly the historic “Howdy, Modi” event held at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The event was a milestone in U.S.-India relations, attracting a massive crowd of Indian-Americans and showcasing the strength of the relationship between the two nations.
Reflecting on the event, Trump said, “It was me and him, and it was beautiful. There were around 80,000 people, and it felt like something crazy. We were walking around, and today, I don’t think I could replicate something like that.”
Trump’s admiration for Modi extended beyond public displays of friendship. He recalled Modi’s firm stance when India was under threat, though he left out specific details regarding the situation or the country involved. “There was a time when someone was threatening India, and Modi completely changed,” Donald Trump recounted. “I offered to help, but Modi told me, ‘I’ll handle it. We’ve defeated them for hundreds of years.’ He was talking about a certain country, and you can probably guess which one.”
A Friendship Shaping U.S.-India Relations
The relationship between Trump and Modi has been a subject of much attention in recent years. Their public displays of camaraderie during significant events like “Howdy, Modi” and the subsequent “Namaste Trump” rally in Ahmedabad in 2020 have cemented their partnership. During the “Namaste Trump” event, over 100,000 people gathered at the world’s largest cricket stadium to witness the show of friendship between the two leaders.
Trump took the opportunity to praise Modi’s leadership and India’s economic progress under his government. He highlighted the shared democratic values that unite the U.S. and India, while also noting how Modi’s leadership helped elevate India’s standing on the global stage.
