Visa Criteria :- Canada’s move to attract international students has come with increased financial implications, as the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has declared a hike in the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants. Effective from coming January, this change is expected to impact the affordability of pursuing education in the country.
Visa Criteria for Canada students :-
Immigration Minister Mark Miller justified the decision by highlighting the necessity for financial adjustments, underlining that it ensures international students arrive adequately prepared.
He emphasized the goal of preventing vulnerabilities and exploitation that some students may have encountered in the past. In a bid to address the evolving landscape of education, the IRCC has extended a significant measure.
Students starting a study program before September next year, are now allowed to count time spent studying online towards the calculation of the post-graduation work permit’s length.
This move is geared towards providing flexibility and acknowledging the changing dynamics of learning in the digital age.
Minister Miller further provided updates on three temporary policies that directly impact international students. Firstly, the waiver on the 20-hour-per-week limit for off-campus work has been extended until April 30, 2024.
This extension allows students the flexibility to engage in work for more than 20 hours per week while classes are in session, providing them with additional opportunities to support themselves financially.
