Canada Starts Cutting Staff from Indian Consulates

Canada Limiting Staff in Indian Consulates

Canada Starts: Canada has announced a reduction in consulate staff across India, potentially impacting visa application procedures.

This move, attributed to decreased available personnel, aims to streamline operations. Despite staff cuts, Canadian visa application centres in India remain operational, ensuring continuity in visa processing.

Assurances have been provided by a Canadian High Commission spokesperson that core services, including consular support and trade facilitation, will continue uninterrupted.

This commitment underscores the enduring bilateral relationship between Canada and India.

The decision comes amid strained diplomatic relations between the two countries, stemming from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s remarks implicating Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In response, India requested Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in India for parity.

Last year, tensions led to the temporary suspension of visa services in both nations, with Canada briefly halting visa and in-person consular services in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Mumbai.

Despite these challenges, efforts are underway to maintain diplomatic engagement and uphold essential services for citizens of both countries.

As Canada adjusts its diplomatic footprint in India, the long-standing ties between the two nations remain resilient, ensuring continued collaboration and support for citizens and businesses alike.
