Canada Speeds: Canada has implemented a new approach to calculating processing times for certain applications.
According to a recent announcement by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the department will now share expected processing times online using a forward-looking method.
This initiative aims to help applicants better predict how long their application process might take. The need for a new calculation method was highlighted in a report by the Office of the Auditor General last October.

The report made several recommendations for improving how IRCC determines and communicates processing times.
The updated processing times will be accessible for numerous high-volume immigration programs.
The Auditor General’s report emphasized that online information on processing times should cover all permanent resident (PR) applications, factoring in the volume and age of applications already in the system.
This change marks one of IRCC’s initial steps to address the recommendations from the report. Applicants can expect updated service standards by the end of the year as IRCC continues to refine its processes.
The new method for calculating and publishing processing times is expected to enhance transparency and improve the overall experience for applicants.
By providing more accurate and up-to-date information, IRCC aims to set clearer expectations and reduce uncertainties for those navigating the immigration process.
