Canada Revamps: Canada, renowned for its welcoming immigration policies, is actively enhancing its system under the leadership of Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship. A series of measures has been unveiled, aiming to fortify Canada’s immigration framework and emphasizing its role in driving economic growth and national prosperity.
Canada Revamps Immigration Updates
In the 12 months leading up to July 1, 2023, Canada witnessed its most significant population increase in nearly seven decades, with a growth rate of around 3%, bringing the total population to over 40 million.
The IRCC has detailed a range of measures aimed at crafting a system that aligns with Canada’s economic and labor market requirements. These changes will be enacted through comprehensive government cooperation, with a primary emphasis on welcoming individuals essential for the nation’s future, all while preserving the system’s safety, security, and integrity.
Immigration continues to play a central role in Canada’s population growth, with over 8.3 million people, constituting nearly 23% of the population in 2021, being either current or former landed immigrants or permanent residents in the country.
Fifty years ago, there were about seven workers for each senior citizen. Now, Canada has approximately three workers per senior, and it’s expected to drop to about two workers per senior soon. The aging workforce has notable economic consequences, including ongoing labor shortages.
