Bessika Bucktawor: The Crowning Moment and Its Impact

June 10, 2017, marked almost a year since Bessika was crowned Miss Mauritius. Reflecting on her journey, she described the year as an enjoyable experience filled with personal growth and impactful moments. “Being crowned Miss Mauritius is the most beautiful experience I have ever had. I gave my all in my role as a beauty ambassador,” Bessika shared. This experience not only transformed her but also provided her with the opportunity to succeed in her project of saving stray dogs on the island.

The crown, a symbol of her achievement, brought numerous opportunities and a sense of responsibility. “No matter the result, you always have to do your best,” she emphasized, highlighting her commitment to her role and her aspirations for the future.

Personal Growth and Overcoming Challenges

Bessika’s reign as Miss Mauritius was not without its challenges. In February, she faced a false allegation on Facebook, claiming she was arrested in London with two kilos of cocaine. Despite this setback, Bessika remained resilient, focusing on the positive experiences and memories she created throughout the year. “I have had the opportunity to meet and get to know some wonderful people during the functions in Mauritius and during my travels,” she recalled.

Bessika Bucktawor’s journey also involved personal growth, as she admitted, “I am no longer the same person. Being crowned beauty queen for your country forges your personality and makes it stronger. Today I have much more confidence in myself, but I always remain humble.”

Memorable Moments and Future Aspirations

One of Bessika Bucktawor’s most cherished memories was the moment the crown was placed on her head. “It is an indescribable joy,” she said. Her first outing as Miss Mauritius at the Motor Show by ABC Motors, the sponsor of Miss Mauritius’ car, was another highlight. The overwhelming support and admiration from the public were heartwarming and reinforced her sense of purpose.

As Bessika Bucktawor prepares to pass her crown to the next Miss Mauritius on September 2, Bessika remains committed to her role as an ambassador. She is set to participate in the Miss World competition in November in China, working on her Beauty With A Purpose project in the south of Mauritius. Her dedication to staying fit, with the help of a specialized coach and flying yoga sessions, underscores her determination to represent her country with pride.

Embracing New Challenges and Serving Others

Bessika’s journey began with a desire to overcome her shyness and express her personality. Inspired by the previous Miss Mauritius, Danika Atchia, Bessika aimed to live an adventure that would allow her to grow and assume her identity fully. “I wanted to live an adventure in which I could express my personality and especially assume the person and the woman that I am,” she explained.

Bessika Bucktawor’s role as Miss Mauritius is not just about beauty but also about being a bearer of messages and contributing to a better Mauritius. “I do not claim to know everything. I am not saying that I will be the best Miss, but I intend to give it my all,” she said, highlighting her commitment to continuous learning and personal development.

A Mission to Help and Inspire

Bessika Bucktawor’s mission extends beyond her title. She is motivated by the desire to serve sick children and make Mauritians proud. Her passion for helping diabetic children and her collaboration with NGOs working on this cause reflect her compassionate nature. “It is an evil that deserves all our attention, and I intend to make it my hobby horse,” she stated.

Her ultimate goal is to make Mauritius shine on the global stage. “When you choose to participate in this kind of competition, it is also telling yourself that you have a duty to represent our country as best you can, and I intend to do everything to be a worthy ambassador,” she affirmed.
