Born in Bangka, Ayu Azhari is the eldest of seven children of H. Abdullah Azhari and Hj. Khairani. Her entry into the entertainment world began in 1984 when she made her feature film debut in “Akibat Buah Terlarang” (Effects from the Forbidden Fruit).
Rising Star Under Teguh Karya’s Guidance
A pivotal moment in Azhari’s career came when renowned director Teguh Karya noticed her talent and took her under his wing as a protégée. Her first role for Karya was a minor character in the stage drama “Pernikahan Darah” (Blood Wedding).
