Early Life and Education
Arun Sarin’s educational journey began at the Bangalore Military School, setting the foundation for his future endeavors. His quest for knowledge led him to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he earned a B.Tech. degree in metallurgical engineering in 1975.
Furthering his education, he obtained an MS in engineering and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1978.
Early Career and AirTouch (1984 – 1999)
Embarking on his professional journey, Arun Sarin DC commenced as a management consultant before joining the Pacific Telesis Group in San Francisco in 1984. His ascent was rapid, becoming a director of AirTouch in 1995 and subsequently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer from February 1997.
Vodafone (1999 – 2008)
The turning point in Arun’s career came when AirTouch was acquired by Vodafone in 1999. He assumed the role of Vodafone’s Chief Executive Officer for the United States and Asia Pacific region, overseeing a period of unprecedented growth.
His strategic acumen and leadership played a pivotal role in Vodafone’s foray into emerging markets, with notable acquisitions in Turkey and India.
Under his leadership, Vodafone’s global subscriber base surged from 100 million to a staggering 300 million. Arun spearheaded the company’s expansion into diverse services, including data, internet, and broadband.
Arun Sarin orchestrated operational efficiency by consolidating under the Vodafone brand while ensuring a localized customer focus. This era also witnessed a remarkable 400 percent increase in dividends per share and value returned to shareholders through buybacks.

Post-retirement, Arun embraced diverse roles. In 2009, he joined the private equity firm KKR as a senior advisor, contributing his wealth of experience. His involvement extended to advising early-stage technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and India.
