Early and Personal Life of Amit Bhatia
Amit Bhatia was born in London, United Kingdom, but his educational journey took him across continents. He attended St. Columba’s School in Delhi until 1995, then moved to Dulwich College in London in 1996, and later to the British School in Delhi in 1997.
His academic pursuits culminated at Cornell University, where he studied economics. Bhatia’s connection to Cornell has remained strong; he serves on the External Advisory Council for Internationalization and has lectured at the university’s Johnson School for MBA students.

Hope Construction Materials
In January 2013, Bhatia founded Hope Construction Materials, the UK’s largest independent cement, aggregates, and concrete company. Formed after the divestment of 200 sites by Tarmac Group and Lafarge, Hope Construction’s assets include the largest cement works in the UK at Hope Valley, 172 ready-mix plants, 4 rail heads, 5 major quarries, 7 national offices, a fleet of over 400 vehicles, and over 1000 employees.
Under Amit Bhatia’s leadership, the company became the UK’s first construction firm to join the World Economic Forum’s Global Growth Companies community.
In August 2016, Bhatia sold Hope to Breedon Aggregates, forming the Breedon Group, the UK’s largest independent construction materials group. Bhatia joined the board as a non-executive director and became a substantial shareholder. His influence continued to grow, and in May 2019, he was appointed chairman of the board.

Bhatia’s business interests extend to real estate and technology. He is a partner of Summix, a strategic land fund with a nationwide portfolio. He has served as their vice-chairman, except for a brief period in 2011 when he resigned in frustration after his bid to buy the whole club was unsuccessful. On August 15, 2018, Bhatia was appointed chairman of the club, taking over from Tony Fernandes and Ruben Gnanalingam. His leadership has been crucial in steering the club towards success.
