Hussain’s medical career is a narrative of innovation and dedication. As an orthopaedic surgeon at the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, NHS Wales, he made significant strides in his field.
Notably, his work on the Notch Trial method in total knee replacement surgery was showcased at the World Orthopaedic Conference in 2013, highlighting his contributions to medical advancements. In the 2015 United Kingdom general election, Altaf Hussain stood as a candidate for the Welsh Conservatives in Swansea East. His political journey saw a significant milestone when he succeeded Byron Davies as a Member of the Senedd (MS) for South Wales West in 2015, becoming the second Muslim member of the Assembly.
Despite a setback in the 2016 Welsh Assembly elections, Altaf Hussain’s resilience saw him elected to the Bridgend County Borough Council in 2017 and re-elected to the Senedd in 2021.
