Xavier Jayakumar’s political journey gained momentum in 2008 when he was elected as the Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Seri Andalas. During this tenure, he served as a Member of the Selangor State Executive Council (EXCO), contributing significantly to policy reforms that prioritized sustainable development, infrastructure improvement, and community well-being.
In 2018, Xavier Jayakumar ascended to the national stage, winning the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat under the banner of the People’s Justice Party (PKR). Shortly thereafter, he was appointed Minister of Water, Land, and Natural Resources in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

As Minister, Xavier Jayakumar spearheaded critical initiatives aimed at safeguarding Malaysia’s natural resources while fostering sustainable economic growth. Citing frustration with the evolving political landscape, Xavier Jayakumar resigned from PKR in March 2021 and declared himself an Independent MP. His decision highlighted his resolve to chart an independent course, prioritizing the needs of his constituents over political affiliations.
