The Sum 41 Saga: 1998-2006

Baksh joined Sum 41 in 1997, becoming the third member of the band after Deryck Whibley and Steve Jocz. As the lead guitarist, Baksh brought a unique sound that became integral to Sum 41’s identity. He was also part of the band’s alter-ego group, Pain for Pleasure, where he embraced the moniker “Pleasure.” His stage names, “Dave Brownsound” and “Hot Chocolate,” playfully referenced his Indian heritage and the rich tones he produced on his guitar.

Sum 41’s rise to fame was meteoric, with Baksh contributing significantly to their success. His favorite tracks to perform included “Mr. Amsterdam,” “Machine Gun,” “Pain for Pleasure,” and “The Bitter End.” However, the pressure to continually express his evolving guitar skills within the confines of the band’s style led to a pivotal decision in 2006.

The Brown Brigade Chapter: 2006-2008

On May 11, 2006, Dave Baksh announced his departure from Sum 41, citing personal reasons and a desire for creative freedom. This period of exploration was crucial for Baksh as he honed his skills and broadened his artistic horizons. Although Brown Brigade remained primarily a studio act, its influence on Baksh’s career was profound.
