India Leads: India has emerged as the top source of passengers at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel, with a total of 11.9M arrivals, as announced by the airport on Monday.

DXB not only exceeded its own annual projections but also surpassed pre-pandemic traffic levels.

In 2023, DXB experienced a significant surge in passenger numbers, reaching a total of 86.9M marking a remarkable year-on-year increase of 31.7%. This figure slightly exceeded the passenger count in 2019, which stood at 86.4M. The growth was particularly robust in the latter half of the year, with a total of 45.4M passengers recorded.

December emerged as the busiest month in the fourth quarter, with 7.8M guests passing through the airport. Overall, the fourth quarter saw 22.4M guests, a 13.8% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The third quarter retained its status as the highest-traffic quarter since 2019, with 23M guests, while August recorded the highest monthly traffic at 7.9M guests.

DXB maintained efficient passenger processing, with over 95% experiencing less than seven minutes of waiting time at departure passport control and an average waiting time of less than four minutes for 97.5% of guests at security check-in departures.

Initial forecasts for 2024 project DXB to welcome 88.8M guests, bringing it close to its previous all-time high of 89.1M guests in 2018, indicating sustained growth and recovery in the aviation sector.
